Dancehall appeared in Russia in the mid-1990s. The first DJ who brought Jamaican Music to the dance floor was Rast Clot Selecta. He started to perform at hip-hop, jungle and reggae parties, as the sole representative of Jamaican musical style. In St. Petersburg 2001 there were organized dancehall parties. Mad Maxx Selecta and Golden Middle were united together in a promotional group by the name of Jungle Rock Movement and were blasting dance floors, playing hot Jamaican Rhythms on a small vinyl.

Step by step, this music became more and more popular. Some people began to search for videos with different moves and learn them, surprising the audience at the parties with the unusual moves. Also some people tried to repeat the movement which they had seen and thus, a lot of admires of dancehall appeared. Since 2006 in Moscow and St. Petersburg they began to conduct a Dancehall Queen Competition, in which dancers from all over Russia took part: Kazan, Samara, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar and other cities.
