Jessica’s dance career began at a very young age, training in ballet,
tap & jazz performing in recitals and dance shows. She continued on
through college as a member of several professional dance companies
and gaining more commercial/industry experience. However, dance life
for Phoenix was abruptly stopped by a car accident and serious
injuries that stemmed from it. After an extended hospital stay and
full rehabilitation, she was fully recovered in less than a year and a
half. At this point, Phoenix’s determination for dance was
unstoppable. That experience was inevitably a true blessing that
raised her level of intensity, passion, and dedication to creating a
life for herself. She said goodbye to her home in Maryland and moved
to Atlanta.

After only a few months of relocating, Phoenix had quickly made a name
for herself dancing in several projects and teaching at Atlanta’s
premiere dance studios. Establishing herself early on as a growing
choreographer as well, her first major work came from being selected
by MTV Networks Director for a commercial featuring International
Artist K’Naan. Other choreography works of hers have appeared on
Atlanta’s Center Stage, Alliance Theater, and in Cici Kelley’s first
Phazes of Love showcase. After only a year in Atlanta, Phoenix was
blessed with the opportunity to tour with the Universoul Circus U.S.
Tour 2009 & 2010. An experience like none other! While traveling with
the circus she worked as a dancer, showgirl, and was trained by the
best in Las Vegas to be a Russian Quick Change Magic Artist. Soon
after that she was picked up for the KING Michael International and
National Tour, a live Michael Jackson tribute show traveling to
Canada, New York, & the West Coast.

After a few years of touring, her time back in ATL was no less busy.
Phoenix landed a feature in UpScale Magazine for Caribbean Dance
Fitness, was a 2nd time featured choreographer in Phazes of Love
Showcase, and landed a principle role in the first full production of
America’s got Talent finalists, ILUMINATE DANCE at Six Flags Over
Georgia. She is currently still an active company member with
ILUMINATE, highlighting her recent performances at Obama’s
Presidential Inauguration and on MAGIC TV in Paris France! All of her
work landed her the 2012 Destined to Dance Award for Best Female
Dancer in Atlanta.

Her love and deep connection with another dance genre and culture has
and has grown in the Jamaican Dancehall scene as a dancer,
choreographer, and instructor. She has been credited for bringing the
first successful authentic weekly dancehall classes and workshops to
the Atlanta area and successfully merging the authentic dancehall
world with the professional dance scene. Creating Fiyah Squad, an all
female dancehall performance group and developing her FIYAH brand
brought a new energy into the scene. Her dedication to the growth and
positivity in the culture gained her recognition as Global Link US
Female Nominee for Dance Jamaica Awards 2012.

Phoenix has only now been in NYC for less than a year and has already
begun to spread the FIYAH. Quickly, landing a guest spot then a Summer
teaching slot at Broadway Dance Center bringing her own style, AFRO
ISLAND DANCE to students and NYC dancers. Most recently, Phoenix has
just returned from a trip to Jamaica where she was able to meet
Jamaican dancers and experience the authenticity of Jamaican
Dancehall. While there she was the only American guest instructor
teaching at the International Dancehall Homecoming Event and also
competed and landed 3rd place in the first ever International
Dancehall Championships.
From her great experience, inspiration, and a blessing of opportunity
and support, Jessica Phoenix has decided to finally carry out a long
time dream of hers.
FIYAH Productions Presents FIYAH! Dancehall Theater, a full production

York at the Roulette Theater November 8 & 9 with plans to expand and
travel the show from there.
