Bubblin’ Breezes (Meri-Tuuli Hirvonen) / Bubblin’ Crew (Finland)

Meri-Tuuli, also known as Bubblin’ Breezes, has dedicated 99% of her time to studying, practicing, teaching and loving Jamaican dancehall. She runs her own dance school, Bubblin’ Moves, the only dance school in Finland specialized in dancehall alone, coaches her three crews, Bubblin’ Crew, Queens of ******* Everything & Bubblin’ Stars, brings visiting teachers from Jamaica almost monthly to Finland and organizes dancing trips to Jamaica twice a year for her students.

Her mission is to get people to know and enjoy Jamaican dancehall in its most authentic form – not mixing it with other street dances. She thinks it’s impossible to dance dancehall without knowing the culture and the meanings behind the dance moves. That’s why Breezes travels to Jamaica several times a year since 2010 to practice the dances with the creators themselves. In the winter 2012 she spent five months practicing and working as a dancer in Kingston. She’s been taught by some of Jamaica’s best dancehall dancers such as: Latonya Style & First Class Dancers, Elite Team, Rifical Team, Black Eagles, Mystic Davis, Queen Latesha, Dance Xpressions, , M.O.B, Ghetto Legacy, Freshh Kiddz, Collo Squad, Akademic Fresh Team and Real Konnection. The most influential teachers to her has been Nicky Trice (Rifical Team) and Keemi Elite.

She got introduced to dancehall dancing in 2005 by Jamaican students while she was living in Cuba, practicing as a member of a professional afro-cuban dance company (Folklorico del Oriente). Before dancehall her passion was afro-cuban dances, rumba, salsa and reggaeton and she made some 10 trips to Cuba to learn the dances from some of the best Cuban dancers in the world. She also lived two years in Spain (2008-2009) where she practiced dancehall, afro-cuban & afro-brazilian dances and hip hop. She used to teach salsa and reggaeton for 10-15 classes weekly for several years.

Before starting Bubblin’ Moves she worked for the biggest dance schools in Finland, teaching appr. 200 students a week. Now her focus is on her own dance company and community “Bubblin’ Family” which is appr. 150 very motivated students up to date. In addition to her 6 weekly regular classes, she teaches workshops around Finland and regularly in Spain and Estonia. Breezes has educated several dancehall teachers in Finland, at least 9 to date. Bubblin’ Moves works in co-operation with DanceJa and DanceJa Skool bringing dancers to Finland to teach real Jamaican dancehall and taking Bubblin’ Moves students to Jamaica.

Together with her Bubblin’ Crew she has performed with world famous Jamaican artists such as Elephant Man, Mr. Vegas, Konshens, RDX, Popcaan, Jah Vinci, Stein and Capleton. Breezes has starred in many music videos, for example Konshens – Couple up, Aidonia – Tip on your toe, Shaggy Feat.Eve – Girls just wanna have fun, Mavado ft. Chi Ching Ching – Settle Down pt.2, Munga – Party Hard, Macka Diamond & Devina Burn – You like it and UEFA EURO 2012 Theme song and in Finland the local artist Raappana’s latest video.
